The followings are the proved methods to lengthen height medically at present.

The growth hormone treatment

a treatment with GH (growth hormone) in childhood

Men grow taller till around 18-year-olds and women do till around 16-year-olds.

   Not only growth hormone but also any medicines, braces and massages don’t work effectively after skeletal maturity (proved medically).

The Growth hormone treatment is limited to the indicated disease and appropriate period, and an examination by the doctor specialized in internal secretion is required to be covered by the health insurance.

It won’t be the treatment of choice except the diseases such as dwarfism caused by growth hormone deficiency and achondroplasia.

2. The surgical treatment
The bones (tibia and fibula) are carefully cut apart and slowly (about 1mm a day) lengthened through the growth of new bone using the Ilizarov external fixator. There are 2 ways as follows.

(A)The Ilizarov method (conventional method)

(B)The Ilizarov method + intramedullary nail( Lengthening Over Nails)

Since it takes long time (about 10 months to 1year or nearly2 years) after the operation to consolidate the lengthened bone and you can’t take out the external fixator during the treatment in case of (A), the Ilizarov method. So, you may have some disability in the activity of daily life. In case of (B), the Ilizarov method + nails (LON), the external fixator can be removed after 2 or 3 months. The internal devices (intramedullary nails) alone are more comfortable to the patient in the aspects of activity of everyday life.
There is an unusual probability of getting infections in the bone lengthened with nails however.

In that case it could take long time to treat the infection.
